Music Interventions that Support Carers and Those They Care For
Our Music For Carers programme provides music interventions that support improvements in the health and wellbeing of local caregivers and those they care for. The programme provides carers with social opportunities that will help them to develop vital support networks whilst also providing opportunities to help develop their relationships with those they care for.
Caring for someone takes its toll both physically and mentally and it is often difficult for carers to find the time to prioritise meaningful activities that could support their own wellbeing. This can also lead to carers feeling disengaged and cut off from their local community. This feeling has been exacerbated in the past few years due to Covid-19, whereby other means of support was closed and many caregivers needing to provide round-the-clock care for loved ones. Coupled with the cost of living crisis we now face, means a large proportion of carers are unable to access provision beyond their basic needs.
Our programme not only provides carers with relief from their caregiving responsibilities for a short time each week, the sessions also provide a valuable creative outlet for self-expression. The respite they receive from attending the sessions will enable participants to recharge and re-energise themselves. The programme will reduce social isolation and support carers to develop their peer/support networks and build friendships by connecting with those that face similar challenges. In addition to the impact on the carers that attend and those they care for, the programme will also indirectly benefit and impact their friends, families and the wider community.
The Benefits of Music-Making For Caregivers
Our activities can support carers in a number of ways. They:
- Provide carers with relief from their caregiving responsibilities, enabling them to recharge and re-energise themselves.
- Promote positive mental health, raise self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Provide a valuable creative outlet for self-expression.
- Reduce social isolation and support carers to develop their peer/support networks and build friendships by connecting with those that face similar challenges.
- Provide opportunities to help develop their relationships with those they care for.
