Rose Road

Feedback from the CEO at Rose Road Association:

“Just a quick and massive ‘THANK YOU’ for this week. What an incredible week for our young people. What I have seen, and what has been fed back to me, is amazing.  I think too that the staff learned that the more they take part rather than watch the more they get out of it. They have come away with some amazing skills and a confidence with music that will benefit our young people for a long time to come. Fair to say that one young man who you spent so much one to one time with (ZR) may find that he can begin to reintegrate to services and to school now that we have found that music is the way to reach him and keep him engaged and calm.”

Feedback from support staff at Rose Road Association

“I was so impressed with how Louis and Iggy interacted with our young people. They truly understood the ability and specific needs of each individual and managed to include service users with PMLD amongst group sessions which included young people with only mild learning difficulties. We also witnessed, during a one-to-one, vocalisations from a service user that has been using Rose Road for some years now that had previously never been heard before which was absolutely amazing. I sincerely hope that these sessions become a regular occurrence.”

St George’s

Feedback from the class teacher at St George’s:

“I just wanted to say what a fantastic time the students (and staff) are having when Iggy delivers the music sessions at St Georges (IOW) – they truly are the highlight of the week and we have already had many golden moments”

Feedback from SLT at St George’s:

“Every single student has benefited enormously from the sessions and a lot of fun was had by all – including the staff! I could tell from many of the photos and videos taken in evidence that the interactions were as joyful as they were educational”

Redcliffe

Feedback from support staff at Redcliffe:

“I myself have been able to run a couple of sessions and my confidence has grown throughout these sessions. I have been given ideas and opportunities to develop myself as a musician and with the ability to use what I have learned from Future Sounds”

Mary Rose

Feedback from class teacher at Mary Rose:

“There have been tears of joy and happiness from both myself and the support staff as it has been wonderful for others to come into our classroom and see the students as creative, funny and wonderful pupils that we know we have.  To share their personalities and watch them develop over the weeks of hard work and dedication has been wonderful. I cannot thank Future Sounds and SoCo for bringing their understanding and beauty into our school”

Youth Justice Sessions in Millbrook

Feedback from participant:

“Through the sessions I have learned how to cope with feeling nervous to record and gained the confidence to put my music out there. I have also learnt how to structure my music when writing so that it makes sense. I have recently learned how to prepare my voice by using vocal warm ups, and have done this through online meetings with Shannon and have carried on with practicing them.

As a young urban artist I believe its really important to have guidance and a positive role model that will guide you along the right path in order for you to grow and succeed in the music industry and I also believe its important to learn the whole way through. More sessions would be really beneficial because I have learnt so much with the support already and would be really great to carry on this opportunity.”

Feedback from participant:

“I have attended two sessions but honestly they were life changing and had a great impact on me. It improved my confidence and also showcased me that making music is possible and every session that I have been to, I feel like I have learned something new at every session.”

Youth Sessions in Thornhill

Feedback from participant:

“The sessions made me feel way more confident about myself and taught me so much about my rapping, for example it helped me learn how to structure my ideas lyrically and how to be myself in the booth. They also helped me grow and made me believe in myself a lot more and I have become a better me, which is why these sessions are my favourite thing to go to.”

Feedback from participant:

“The music sessions have helped me grow in confidence to perform in front of people and motivated me to actually make my own music and upload it for people to hear.”

Basingstoke Sessions at College of Technology

Feedback from Lynsey Spillane (Course Director foundation learning) BCOT

“Within our Specialist Provision and Future Pathways programmes we have a number of young people who have complex needs both inside and outside of college.

Many of these young people struggle to engage in education and have been out of education for some time. They are all either involved in anti-social or criminal behaviour or at risk of these behaviours. Many of the boys have already been identified by Police and other agencies as at risk of CCE.

We have been working hard to engage these young people and offer them positive activities to help them with attendance and engagement in college, alongside improving their self-confidence and skills.

I believe that these music sessions helped our students to engage with a positive activity which they related to and allowed them to express themselves.

I hope that these sessions will keep the students at college and help them begin to see their own self-worth and ability and divert them away from negative and risk taking activities.”

Pupil Referral Unit Sessions

Feedback from Shirley Murphy (Work experience coordinator) ASHWOOD ACADEMY

“So often young people in education centres feel that once they are excluded from mainstream school, no one wants them and it’s the end of the road, so no point in trying.

It has been proved that not only does listening and making music have a direct effect on wellbeing, it can also lower stress levels. Participation in group music sessions promotes students working and making connections together.

The lyrical contents of some of today’s Grime, Drill and Hip Hop can have a negative influence on young people by normalising violence, to be able to offer a positive alternative to what they are already listening to, can help them re-evaluate some of the challenges they may encounter.

Long term outcomes – helping students build confidence by believing in themselves allowing them to have a better understanding of what could be achieved, leading to more options for their future.”
