Music Practitioner
Background
SoCo Music Project are looking for a Volunteer Practitioner to support our busy team of Music Leaders in delivering high quality music workshops for a diverse range of service users.
At SoCo, we provide engaging and inspirational music activities for people of all ages and have developed programmes that engage with a wide range of groups across Hampshire, including young people in challenging circumstances and vulnerable adults. We are funded to develop activities in areas where music provision is sparse, and we support Music Leaders to develop their practice across the region.
Role Description
We are looking for a committed and passionate person to assist our Music Leaders with creative music workshops in Southampton and surrounding areas. Workshop settings can range from one-on-one tuition to large group work, from structured programmes to drop in activity. Candidates should be confident in dealing with people of all abilities as our service users have a range of needs and can sometimes be challenging.
Successful candidates will be supported and mentored by our experienced music leaders, and training will be provided. A range of music skills is desirable, as is experience of involvement in music workshop environments and/or healthcare/support settings.
Workshop days/times/regularity can vary greatly with each project; however, we would ideally be looking for individuals that can commit to a minimum of 3 hours volunteering per week.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of music workshops for a range of different groups.
- Data collection e.g. conducting interviews, taking photos
Skills
- Experience of music workshop environments is desirable
- An understanding of healthcare/support settings is desirable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Knowledge and skills in a range of instruments/music/software is desirable.
- Flexibility and adaptability

- Ability and enthusiasm to work with people with a range of needs (i.e. learning difficulties, physical disabilities etc.)
